Seattle Central's Cooperative Preschools

Seattle Central Community College Cooperative Preschools are parent-run preschools that are staffed by parents, who act as assistant teachers, and a teacher who has been hired by the Co-op board. Parents who are on the Co-op Board are responsible for all aspects of running the school, including fundraising and hiring teachers, if necessary. In addition to working in the classroom each week, parents are required to have another job in the coop.

Each school has a monthly parent meeting which parents are required to attend. During the parent meeting, time is set aside to discuss classroom issues and there is a special discussion led by the school's Parent Educator on topics that are relevant and helpful to families.

Parent Educators are affiliated with Seattle Central Community College and provide support to co-op parents and to the school's teacher. Parent Educators are scheduled to attend each preschool class for a number of hours during the month in order to observe classroom operation and to offer resources to teachers and parents.
